USCC Announces Three-Race Vintage Points Championship

Minto, ND (January 4th, 2012) - On the heels of the highly-successful, first-ever USCC Vintage I-500 race the USCC National Guard Cross-Country Snowmobile Championship is announcing a three-race points championship for the Vintage race class. The three races will include the Detroit Lakes, Red Lake I-500 and Warroad events.

"We picked these three races because they contain all the classic elements of cross-country racing," said USCC Race Director Jesse Strege. "The winner of this points championship will be able to say he experienced racing the same way the people who originally raced the vintage-class sleds probably did."

The first Vintage race will take place at the Beach Bar 200 in Detroit Lakes, Minn., Saturday, January 28. An ice and terrain mix at this event will prove a challenging mix for Vintage racers.

The Vintage class will race at the Red Lake I-500 in Thief River Falls, Minn., on Saturday, February 25. Like last season, the Vintage class will ride the same course and make fuel stops just like the modern sleds. Riders will tackle rivers, ditch, fields and woods. Last year's race saw many great names like John Carlson and Doug Oster come out as well as Brian Nelson, Aaron Scheele and class winner Joey Hallstrom.

The last race in the three-race championship will take place at the final USCC event scheduled to be held March 10 in Warroad, Minn. Once home to the Warroad 500, the Warroad 100 race usually features a challenging mix of lake running, shoreline, woods, ditch and field.

Vintage class riders are urged to check the USCC Web site and follow the USCC Facebook page for any updates regarding rules, registration and scheduling. Current 2012 rules are posted on the USCC Web site.
